Honoring the Past, Thoughtfully Reimagined

This mid-century modern home is a beautiful example of how thoughtful design can honor a home’s original character while making it work beautifully for modern living.

Over the course of three projects, Riemco had the opportunity to intentionally restore and modernize this home, carefully balancing updated function and contemporary comforts with the architectural language and integrity of its mid-century roots. Rather than reinventing the home, our approach was to build upon what was already there – preserving the elements that give it distinctive personality while introducing updates that feel natural and timeless.

Clean lines in the updated kitchen with custom walnut cabinetry showcasing a horizontal grain, purposeful details like keeping the curved wall and highlighting it with a beautiful teal tile. Maintaining large windows and a strong connection between the home and its surroundings remain central to the design. Lighting effects that showcase the ceiling and down the fireplace stone bring warmth to each room.

Each phase of work was approached with the same respect for the original architecture, creating spaces that feel cohesive with the home’s history while reflecting the way the homeowners live today and how they intend to age in place with the modern conveniences.

Having the opportunity to return to this home for three separate projects is especially meaningful to us. Each project added another layer to the home’s evolution, and together they create a respectful balance of mid-century character and modern-day living.
