Janice Gervais

Janice started designing her own home roughly 5 years ago while on a family journey of living in a tri-level home built in 1984. The inefficiency of the HVAC, coupled with continuous mold and constant condensation, peeling paint, and chipmunks that took up residence in the walls forced her to set a goal. She was determined to find and achieve a better way to build a house. Over the last 5 years she has dug deep to learn the copious amounts of wall assemblies and materials available to build efficient homes. Janice is always seeking to understand more, and to grasp the bigger picture. Through her research, she learned the difference between heating systems and the advantages of heat pumps. She learned the importance of air sealing, and ventilation of a home for better indoor air quality. The concept of thermal mass and solar heat gain. Janice chose, with the support from Riemco, to train with PHIUS and become a certified Passive House Consultant, and to continue her journey of understanding the best way to build a home. Janice has practically come full circle, she is currently in the middle of building her own ‘Nearly Passive’ house. She has found the perfect job here with her Riemco family, and she shares her passions daily. We have the honor to call her Director of Planning + Design, and our clients have the advantage to work alongside her as she understands their dreams and explores the best ways to build their home together.
